The thoughts plauging Alexis's mind were almost identical to those going through Ross's. What exactly is it he had gotten himself into? Was this actually what he wanted? Should he even be leading her on like this if the future was so uncertain? There so many uncertainties ahead of him, going taking anything with Alexis would only mean that many more.
Ross always had flourished in the face of uncertainty, however. He would worry, and fret, but in the end, he would be in the moment. It caused the boy to live life to the fullest. For once, however, his life wasn't the only one on the line. Alexis was now involved as well. Could she handle staring uncertainty in the face?
Through out the doubts and fears that constantly haunted Ross, waking and sleeping, he had found a sliver of peace. When his mind was raging with uncertainty, he needed only to draw himself back to reality. Back to the girl whose head laid on his chest. Somehow she made all of those things just drift away. Life, as a whole, was never certain, but for Ross, this particular moment was. And that was enough.
Once again, nothing else mattered. Everything was perfect, and though it would never stay that way, he was content knowing that at least, for now. It would be. Ross nodded slowly in agreement to Alex's comment. "No kidding. Of course, his trust is well warranted." Landon trusted him as much as he would trust his own son, a thing that Ross felt was one of his finest merits. The man had a reason to trust him, though. Ross had never, and would never, do anything that would potentially break that trust.
Ross's parent's, however, too a little longer to learn to accept the friendship they had forged. They were a bit skeptical as to the how well they could behave themselves, but over time, they had loosened up, and even gone as far as letting Alex crash at his house. Hopefully things wouldn't change. Ross didn't intend them to.
Maybe the pair would end up as a bona fide couple, be Rodd did not intend to let their relationship change in any way other than that. They had fun together and could be themselves, no amount of romantic involvement could, or would, change that. "Weird, huh?"

Alexis didn't hold any doubt in her mind, in means of Ross breaking her fathers trust. She knew that he respected that, as her dad did them. The girl herself had even had to earn a step more trust of her fathers terms, basically because Ross was a guy, and they did spend allot of time together. Half of that time, though she didn't tell her father so, was one on one like this... just not with the romantic aspects to it. Alex knew that her father trusted the girl not to do anything stupid while she was out, and not let herself be force into doing something she didn't want to do. But, again, the girl knew better, and she knew Ross well enough to know that he wouldn't pull a move like that anyway.
He was better than that. They both were.
When it came to the boy's parents, Alexis knew to step lightly around this subject. She was aware of his feelings when it came to home, so she tried to navigate such emotions into something that was positive, productive. But, in the end, they did trust her, for what it was worth. The teenager wasn't very common with Ross's folks, but she knew them well enough to be on a comfortable level with them when they did cross paths. After a moment, the girl replied to what he had said. "Of course." she agreed with a nod.
Alexis let her fingertips gently trace over the smoothness of his skin in the time being. It was only something subtle, that seemed to happen rather automatically. At Ross's next comment, the girl quirked her head to meet his gaze. "Mmm, what do you mean by that?" she asked him softly , wondering if he was referring to the issue of trust, or something she had not picked up on.

One of Ross’s favorite things about Alexis was that she knew her limits and wouldn’t break them. That was part of why her father trusted them so much. He not only knew what she wouldn’t do, but he also knew for certain that she wouldn’t. Ross hadn’t ever needed to be concerned about that, but recent events forced him to realize such things. Ross likewise had lines drawn in the sand, but the reason he would stick to his guns was for different reasons. He simply didn’t want to break trust. Also, it wasn’t like him to ever coax someone into doing something they didn’t want to do.
Alexis, like most of Ross’s friends, simply avoided talking about his parents and his home life. It just wasn’t worth speaking of. There wasn’t anything horrible about it, but a lot of smaller things create one hell of a large thing. Knowing that, his friends would not bring the subject up. Nor would they make the attempt to be chummy with them. After all, Ross wasn’t.
Ross always had been envious of Alex’s family. Even though they just lived with their father, they were all very close. Sure, they got on each other’s nerves a lot, but at least there was love there. The same couldn’t be the same for Ross. His father was very loving, but his mother was too wrapped up in other things to care much about him or his brothers. Not that she didn’t try. Landon just seemed to the fun dad that would actually do things with their kids.
The feeling of Alexis’s fingers tracing across his skin sent a shiver throughout Ross’s entire body. It just seemed so natural and unforced. Perhaps it was the fact that they were such good friends. Perhaps it was the fact that he had never really felt like this before. All he knew was that it was certainly a feeling he could get used to.
The boy hadn’t realized that the words had been spoken until Alexis answered. Of course she wanted to know what he meant. That spelled either good or bad, depending on what was in her mind. Either she didn’t think there was anything out of the ordinary going on, or she was so okay with the idea that it didn’t seem weird to her at all.
Ross turned his head to the side in order to look her in the face when he spoke. Though, upon seeing her face, his emotions choked him up, utterly destroying the words he had intended to say. ”Well, this. I hadn’t ever felt like this before. I mean, I guess I don’t exactly know what is going on.” He didn’t say it in a way that made it sound bad, only confused. Exactly how he felt. He gently brushed her shoulder with the hand that lay on the ground next to her, in hopes that she wouldn’t get the wrong impression.

It wasn't as if they couldn't speak about it, but there was really no need to. Alex knew of Ross's feelings to wards his family, and even vaguely upon her own. And he knew that she couldn't care less if he was related to Elvis Presley, or the fact that his family were as they were. Though ones upbringing was usually heavily reflected by the time they had reached teenage years, the girl could see that Ross had taken his life into his own hands from a younger age than most. Granted, she didn't know what his real dad was truly like, and for all Alexis knew, Ross could be an imprint of his own father, but she wasn't one to jump to conclusions. Ross was who he was, and he didn't let his family issues seep into his bright and bubbly attitude.
Though, in saying that, this was one of the rare things that did differ the two best friends. Unlike the boy, the girl had been greatly influenced by her father and brothers. Well... she couldn't have really changed that, in any means. Losing someone in your family tended to bring the other members together more so, which was the exact case in Alexis's case. Since her mothers death her family, especially her eldest brother, had made this tight bond with on another that they rarely loosened up on. Really, deep down, Landon and all the children were scared that they were going to lose another member of their family; another piece of their heart. So, whether she liked it or not, the teenager knew that a bond like that wouldn't be broken. All she did wish, was that sometimes, she could give up a little of her own sense of this, and give to to Ross. That, though, was not something of hers to give.
Alexis felt her heart beginning to thunder like a jackhammer. When was the last time she felt like this? Now, as she had realized earlier, much earlier, mind you, she had experienced her fair share of summer romances. She had also had a couple of serious, and a couple of not-so-serious boyfriends. But, when really was the last time that something like this had happened? Her heart competing in a race with itself. Her stomach deciding to flip like it was bouncing on a trampoline. Her mind was distancing itself. She felt as if she was groping around in the dark, but was more than steady in her path ahead. And yet, there was something so reassuring about all these feelings. She knew it wasn't just some fake existence of an emotion used to waste her time. This... this was what real memories, real moments were made of.
His words took a little while to register in her mind. Once they did sink in though, Alexis took a good half a minute to ponder on them. The silence wasn't bad, it was just thick in the moment. Feeling the touch of Ross's hand across her shoulder added to the fact that he felt just as confused as she did at this moment, and not ashamed or any of the other doubtful feelings the girl had been fearing. Alex smoothed over a grove on the boys torso, before her reply came gently. "I know how you feel. I don't think I know what this exactly is, either. I have to admit, I always denied that... something along these lines would ever happen between us. I denied to to everyone, but now I find myself wondering if I'm regretting what I've said and done..." she confessed, a whole bulk of honestly tumbling from the inside out. There was still allot of mystery, and many gaps to be filled in, but enough to keep what was both of their mind rolling. She didn't know if this would go further than tonight, and so, Alexis didn't want to make the impression that she did, or didn't for that matter, want things to continue past now. She just didn't know, and in that, she wanted to see how Ross felt too.

All of Ross's senses seemed to be boosted at once. This moment would forever be ingrained in his mind. He would always remember the sticky heat of the day being slowly blown off his skin by the cool night breeze. The way that the stars twinkled and the shooting stars shot across the sky. The delicate smell of Alexis's hair mixed with the clean smell of nature. Everything seemed more vivid and heightened.
Alexis didn't answer his question directly, instead she chose to ponder it for a little while. Her hesitance proved that she was as confused about the situation as he. Whether that was a good thing to a bad thing was questionable. Two confused people usually had trouble figuring things out. Only time would tell what exactly would become of them.
Alex's response would have seemed like an insult to some. The fact that she denied ever having feelings for him, but Ross knew exactly how she felt. Similar denials had been uttered by him as well. "Ya. I always denied it too. Chase always gave me crap about it, but I never really thought that it would happen."
The boy gently pulled himself into a sitting position once again, knowing that Alexis would do the same. He looked deep into Alex's eyes, wondering if there was actually anything between them, or if this was simply the result of an overly romantic moment spurred by Ross's overactive romantic tendencies. It would be a shame for him to make anything of it only to find out that it wasn't actually anything. "How can we even be sure this is anything? Though Ross was looking at her, his words weren't specifically directed at Alexis.

Alexis couldn't help but analyze what the reactions of the people she cared about would be. Alright, so, her other friends... well, they would be a mix. Some would be the whole 'we knew you made a good couple' attitude - which wasn't actually a new comment to be made -, others may seem indifferent, and there may even be the odd 'you're so lucky' kind of girl. There was at least one of her friends that Alex knew of having a bit of a crush on her senior friend. Her guy friends... well, she knew they wouldn't be affect much at all. They all didn't mind Ross, and got along with him well whenever the occasion arose that their groups did cross. She could imagine the other peer groups having something to say, but whether they voiced those opinions or not was up to them. Frankly... she hadn't cared before now, and that wasn't about to change. Alexis had never been one to worry about what other people thought about her.
And, well, her family... that was another matter entirely. She knew them like the back of her own hand, and each of the four boys would have a different reaction. Jason would act smug, with the whole 'I told you so' attitude to wards them. Jackson would be more subtle, of course, and probably get kicks out of teasing her as he always used to. Sebastian, being her eldest brother, would enforce that 'if he hurts you, I hurt him' act, which would be totally necessary Seb knew Ross, and so did Alexis, and they both knew he wouldn't intentionally hurt her. That left her dad. Landon... well, his attitude would be based on just how open Alex would be about this. He'd support her, but alike all the males in her own house, her father would be amused by the fact that after all their denail... the two did have something.
Alright, so all this was considering something did happen between the two. Alexis was still working through the process of the working out the pros and cons for both side; if something did continue whatever they had, or if they put a stop to it right here and right now. She heard Ross's words in the back of her mind, coming back to her senses when she replied. "It was the same with Sebastian. He always told me people as close as us... that something was bound to happen. But I never believed him, either." the teenager said softly, feeling a small trail of guilt burrow its way into her mind. Why hadn't she considered anything like this before?
"I don't think we can be sure." the girl said, sitting up along side Ross. Alex let her hand drop to her side, only to have her fingers brush over the top of the boys own hand. her fingers lingered over his, resting there to give them both some reassurance that she wasn't going anywhere. Alexis locked her gaze with his a while before she spoke, finding comfort in his blue eyes. "If it was so obvious to everyone else, then what have we been missing?" the girl's head dropped slightly though she still kept her eyes up. "Maybe we were just to blind to see what was really in front of us. Or maybe there just wasn't anything to see. I guess thats our call."

Being a guy, Ross didn't have to worry too much about how others would take the recent development in his and Alexis's friendship. His guy friends could care less who he dated, and any female friends he had would simply think that it was cute, seeing as though they were best friends. At least, that was how Ross saw things. Reality may very well prove to be entirely different. His family would also not care all that much. They would simply be happy that he finally had a girlfriend.
Ross, however, was assuming the same thing that Alex was. That there was something going on. It was easy to see that there was something different, but he couldn't be sure that there was anything going on. That to Ross was the most confusing part about it. Their friendship was too god to get messed up over some stupid feelings that may or may not be real. The feelings, however, were far too strong to ignore.
Alexis's words were more profound than perhaps even she realized. They really couldn't know. They simply had to pick a route and ride it through to the end. Her hand hovered above his, igniting all of Ross's senses. He suddenly became strangely aware of the whole situation, though he was powerless to stop himself. He slowly took a hold of her hand while she was talking, matching her gaze. "Good question. How could we just not see it?"
There was a slight pause as Ross contemplated what to say next. He had never been good in situations like this. Slowly, he lifted his free hand and moved the hair from her face, and bringing it to rest on her neck. "You're right; it is our call." Ross knew that by admitting that, it would would end up being his call. It was the man's duty to do such. Or so he felt. Plus, Ross knew that Alexis would want him to decide. Once again, he tried to think of something to say. Something that would answer all of their questions, but nothing would come to him.
A few more moments passed with their gazes locked before the truth hit Ross square in the face. Why should he rely so much on words? People say a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words were an action worth? Ross knew what he wanted. Whether that desire was a simple illusion caused by some pretty words and an even prettier setting mattered little. Alexis was all that really mattered. With that, Ross threw all hope of saying something profound to the wind and slowly leaned in to gently lay a kiss on her lips, allowing the action to speak for itself.

Alright, so she hated thinking about her at this particular moment in time, but Alexis couldn't really control it. What about Arlene? What on earth was going to happen there? Perhaps a better question was... what was happening there? Ross and herself hadn't spoken about that issue for what seemed like a long time, so the girl wasn't too sure on his feelings to wards it. Last time they had spoken, which had been a good time ago, he had still been into her, and Alex had planted the idea of Ross telling Arlene how he felt into his mind... Had he? Did he know if the feeling was mutual or not? Well, at the moment, the girl couldn't be sure if Ross was... how to put it? Still caught up in her... and at the risk of sounding jealous and shallow, Alexis kind of hoped he wasn't attached to the older girl. If so, well, then that would potentially cause problems for all of them in some way or another.
But then, coming back to the reality; this was Ross. If he felt so strongly about Arlene, then why would he play Alexis like this? Okay, so even if it was merely emerging now, as opposed to Ross having liked Arlene for years now, she still wouldn't believe that he would string her along if he didn't feel something. And that was enough of a sense of security if she ever needed one. And to further confirm her hopes, the feeling of the boy's hand enclosing her own only reassured the girl. His words seemed to have an equal impact, too. Knowing hat Ross continued to run the same race of working out this whole thing was good to know. At least then, both of them were in the same sense of mind.
A small, gentle smile tugged at her lips, as Alex shook her head slightly in reply to his question. Allot of the questioning they had been doing was that of a rhetorical matter, but all the same, the soft shake of her head merely sent the message that she was on the same level as him. When Ross lifted his free hand, time seemed to slow, but yet, it also seemed to magnify each movement of the boy's by several times. Ultimately, her awareness of her senses increased. The feeling of his smooth, yet firm fingertips brushing across her hair, and the way his hand felt warm and comfortable on her neck. Yet again, it was this kind of thing that made Alexis wonder why they had never felt a spark or such between them. Now... it all just seemed so familiar, so fitting, so natural.
If she was right about it being their call, then Ross was also right about it being up to him. She wasn't going to take the lead here; there was no way. The teenager was aware that the older boy had to take the reins in this situations, for ultimately, the decision was down to him. Although the impact of what was happening here was weighed quite equally, the effects of the time ahead would probably affect Ross more so than Alexis. So really, the girl knew that he would make the right choice. Whether it was yay or nay, she could live with it, just as long as he was in her life in one way or another.
It seemed to be minutes before his next move sunk in, though in real life, it wasn't that long at all. Her brown eyes were still caught in his gaze, as Alex was aware of the boy leaning in closer to her. He had made the choice, and now it was up to her either finalizing it, or making the turn around. And you know what? She knew what she wanted, deep down. The teenager didn't rush into her actions, but went at a pace that matched his own. Her free hand raised between them, resting on his shoulder as Alex filled in the space. When her lips met his - which were now gaced by a warming smile. How could she now? - it had a feeling somewhat similar to that of hot chocolate filling you up on the coldest day of the year. The temperature seemed to raise, though in actual fact it was just the feeling of happiness inside of her. She deepened the kiss gently, not wanting to come on too strong, but nor did she want to seem timid either. Well now, hadn't this night become even more so perfect?

As Alexis pondered what exactly had become of Arlene, Ross stayed blissfully aware that for once in his life he wasn't completely hung up on her. As long as he could remember, he had been crushing on Arlene. However, it was obvious that she didn't feel the same about him, hence her boyfriend. So often Ross would spend a long time just pouring over thoughts about her, though deep inside he knew that were fruitless. Or so he thought.
Ross was simply happy that he was finally able to be truly distracted from Arlene. There is nothing like a hopeless love to drag a man down. Alexis, however, seemed to be the only thing that could set his mind on a different path. She always had been able to. True, he had feelings for Arlene. He always had, but this was different. What he and Alexis were experiencing was something more. Something bigger than a stupid childhood crush. Whatever he had felt for Arlene was overshadowed by the intensity of the moment.
As he gazed into Alexis's eyes, Ross pondered why exactly this was such a new thing. How could they have gone from being such good friends with no romantic inclination, to this? It seemed almost preposterous to him. However, is Ross had truly allowed himself to be truthful and really look into his heart, he would have seen that a part of him had always felt like this. He had felt inclined toward Alex in such a way, only it hadn't been nearly as intense, nor had it even taken the same shape. It was more of an unsettling feeling when she discussed her different male interests. He had always passed it off as a fear that her brothers probably felt as well, but in reality it was jealousy.
As Ross leaned in for the kiss, he became dangerously aware that this would be his first. He had experienced his few little relationships here and there, but none of them ever truly counted as a real relationship. Not to mention the fact that none of them were serious enough for Ross to feel comfortable enough to do what he was doing now. Alexis was a whole different song and dance. He felt perfectly comfortable with her. That was the only reason he was able to go through with such a thing.
The kiss was better than Ross could ever have imagined. No matter how much he assumed about what it would be like, it was completely different. Though it was tender, it was much more passion filled than he had expected. Something about the action of a kiss embodied so much passion that he felt himself hold back. If he didn't it might get out of hand, something he was not willing to let happen. The passion, however, still poured out of him, but it remained as tender as he could possibly make it. The kiss seemed to take on the very characteristics of the boy. Full of passion, yet gentle and loving at the same time. A perfect balance.
When the time came to end the kiss, Ross slowly pulled away and let his hand fall slowly from her neck to her waist. A look of astonishment mixed with utter joy filled his eyes as he met hers once more. "I guess that explains things, huh?"[/color] Once again, his words were few. A precaution he took in times similar to this so he wouldn't say something stupid, or break the mood. The ramifications of his actions suddenly hit him. He and Alex were no longer the friends that they once were. They were something more beautiful. Still, in the back of his mind, confusion brewed. No matter how amazing this moment was, they would eventually come to one that would require some choices to be made. Choices that could change the course of both of their lives forever.

To be totally and utterly honest, Alexis had experienced her fair share of what she had thought to be good kisses. In the moment, they had seemed to top any from times before then. She had been in a couple of serious relationships, both of which Ross had known about, as well as a few flings that he may or may nor have gathered information about. Granted, she had also had her bad share of kisses to. The kind where no matter how sweet, or genuine, or caring the boy was, you just really wanted to avoid getting into a situation where kissing was going to be an open option. But, well, when you put those 'good' kisses up against kissing Ross now... nothing could compare.
It was blissful, amazing.
The feeling seemed to absorb every inch of her being. The warm feeling she had felt from the start slid down her throat, consuming every muscle, every limb, every piece of her soul. She felt as if a part of the boy with her now was being transfered into her own body, finding its place nestled within her heart. Something she wasn't about to let go of. The teenager had let go of the world surrounding her, having shut her eyes as to let herself relax a little more. The kiss... it was like it was branded with Ross. She could feel his compassion, his caring, his passion, his personality within the traits of the way he treated her. Okay, so if she had imagine kissing him before now... well, it was much, much better.
As they did break, which seemed to be after such a short time, yet in the same motion, a very long and passionate one. It left Alexis with a glowing sort of feeling, though, one that illuminated her eyes, which were filled with... could she really call it love? She had loved Ross as a best friend, even as a sort of brother before now, but this was a whole new step, a new stage. She wasn't too sure if she, or he for that matter, was ready to call it that much. But she did love him, in a way that she had before now, for all that it was worth. Feeling his hand slide down to her waist, the teen was barely aware that both of them were still in the swimming gear they had been all this afternoon. And how long ago that did seem.
She nodded to his comment, smiling, and dipping her forehead forward so it leaned gently against his. It was such a temptation, to keep herself from kissing him again just yet, anyway. "I think you're right about that." she agreed softly, her hand tracing up his chest subtly. The girl waited a few moments before she added something that had occurred to her a second or so ago. "You know, it's kind of hard to believe that only a few hours ago, we never could have thought this to happen." admitting it was the first to moving on with the future. Now, however, the girl's mind was slowly processing just what things might happen on later that night. She wasn't exactly fond of the idea of departing from Ross, but she knew that they couldn't stay on the hill all night. There was the chance of them crashing at one of their houses, but then again, they had to consider the risks in that, and also how they felt about such a sudden movement. After all, it wasn't as if they wanted, nor needed to rush things anyway.

Ross hadn't had any experience in kissing, so he didn't particularly have a standard at which to compare this one to, but he was pretty sure that he would be hard pressed to ever find one this good. It seemed to be more than simply a form of expressing affection, but rather a surprisingly intimate form of communication. The way Alexis acted, both consciously and unconsciously, told fathoms about how she felt. There was no lying. One could not simply fabricate the things that were being communicated in such a kiss. It was pure and unadulterated.
There was only one answer to their former quandary. After such an event, one could not simply forget about what had transpired, even if the feelings accompanying were relatively new. How ever weird, scary, complicated, confusing, or hard it was, Ross had no other choice. The desires of ones heart cannot be easily ignored. Especially when they pulled so fully on every fiber of his being. Everything aside, they had to make something of this. They owed it to themselves. To no do so would be to lie to their very souls.
Ross, too, had to resist the urge to kiss her again when Alexis leaned her forehead against his. It wouldn't have been right to do so. A second kiss would have only been a slap in the face to the earlier one. "No kidding. If someone would have told me yesterday, I wouldn't have believed them. It just all seems so sudden." His voice trailed off at the end. "Sudden, but right. Good luck explaining this to everyone we denied it to."[/b] The boy laughed softly, knowing that most people would strut around shouting "I told you so!" It didn't matter though. Nothing else really matter at all.

Ross did have a good point with what he was saying. It all was utterly and extremely sudden. Of course, it was all based on a series of events, but neither of them had intentionally put those events in place to make this kind of result. Alexis and Ross had met, and therefore grown to be best friends. Hence the reason they were so close. He had opened up to her, and she the same with him. Therefore, this had made a bond that was so pure, and fill with so much trust, support and general attention, that they couldn't help but want to spend every day with each other during summer. Admittedly, the teenager had always kept in mind just how attractive, and how much of a nice guy Ross was. This had made the realization that Ross was a popular guy... and he was liked by other girls. Right down to the dying hours up until this moments, certain things that happened may or may not have had an impact to this result.
Going to the movies; Alex could recall the way that they would both sheepishly grin when their hands brushed while reaching for popcorn. Or the way that she had jumped onto his shoulder when a certain fright appeared in the film. It had all been normal things, up until now. And it was fairly obvious that the playful swim, romantic sunset and breath taking sky had all had a part in the way the sparks had flown between the two tonight. Really, she was happy for everything, grateful, even. "Sudden and spontaneous." she said softly, smiling into her words which were accompanied with a nod. Leaning back, and sliding her hand so that it was curved around the side of the boy's torso, Alexis locked her gaze with Ross.
"But you know... I guess I'm grateful, too. I'm glad that we didn't rush into anything before now, and regret it after wards. Because now... well, I know that I really do know you, and that you aren't some fake kind of jerk." her words were raw with honesty, but Alex's voice said them in a way that made her comment roll out smooth, yet still truthful. She knew that both the teenager's weren't just experiencing some kind of 'spur of the moment infiltration'. This... well, it was both their hearts desire, something that was ultimately out of their control now. All they could do was hop on, and buckle in for the ride that was going to consume a fair amount of each persons life.
But Alexis didn't care, really. Because that time would be well spent.
It was a good while before the teen actually did give into her temptation to kiss Ross again. And she didn't even feel guilty, when thinking something along the lines of 'I could get used to this...'. Leaning forward slowly, the girl keep her eyes on his, letting her lips pressed tenderly against his own. She held his gaze for a moment or so, just to let Ross know that she wasn't just in this for the physical aspect - oh no, there was much, much more to it than that. Not wanting to break the mysterious feel of the scene, though, Alexis did close her eyes, just letting the soft, gentleness of the kiss take its course.
